More research

Another video i thought of mentioning was Beyonce-Single ladies:
Its a good song on its own, but the dance in the music video made the song even more popular. This is an example of adding value to the song, as the dance was used more than the song. Videos were uploaded to the internet of people doing the famous dance, and it even became the subject of jokes such as parody videos with Justine Timberlake:
And Joe Jonas:
Also, in Piccadilly Circus 100 Single Ladies stopped traffic with the dance:

Research

I was bored today so i decided to look at more music videos. Here is one of my favourites. Its clever and simple, but very effective.

Goldfrapp-Happiness:

I like this video as it makes it appear that its one long shot. Also throughout the entire video the singer appears as different characters while lip syncing.

Revision

I've not got much to post about since we've not been doing any filming. I have been revising for the re-sit though, which has refreshed my mind on last year, so hopefully that will help when we get back to filming. But in the mean time, Merry Christmas :)

Unfortunately, we were not able to take a camera out over the christmas holidays due to sir being away. But we will be straight back to it once we go back.

Come back soon!

Our media teacher has gone on jury service so we have not been having our normal lessons. Instead we have been having revision lessons for our media re-sits. This means we have not had time for filming or editing. We hope he is back soon so we dont get too far behind! :(

Changes from original plan

Since there have been so many changes in the past few weeks i am going to explain what changes we have made and how our video filming will work now.

1. We have a new song, and since it is a female singer we will now be having a female character. This will be Becky. However we will still be using a boy, but he will not be the main character and will only be acting as Becky's partner in the video, so no lip syncing!

2. We have decided to still use the drama room with the microphone and guitar for our lip syncing, but have also decided that this will be the only time we see the lip syncing.

3. We would like to do something to explain exactly what has happened to the couple, and we are thinking along the lines of showing her getting a text saying that the relationship is over. Purhaps doing this in the drama room, rather than using a photo that she is looking at.

4. We have still used the idea of a park, and have so far used Regents Park, showing Becky on her own. We want to go back her with the boy and use that footage in black and white to suggest that by going their on her own she is trying to relive the happy memories.

5. Another idea we have kept is the slow walking through a busy crowd. It has changed by rather than being in a market place, it is now in a street in London. Also rather than walking through the middle of the crowd, we have used a side street to walk down and have the people and traffic behind Becky that will be moving quickly, and also the odd person who walked down the street.

6. We have also decided to scrap the idea of a train station, as we feel it would be a bit risky filming there as we do not fancy running from the security too much! ;)

TV channel and time spot

Now i know my target audience, i can think about when and where my music video would most likely be shown.

Since my target audience is 16-18 year old teen girls, the most likely channel would be on a music channel, such as MTV, VIVA, 4music, throughout the day as they would be the most popular channels for teenagers. However my music video could even be shown in the evening after soaps, or even teenage dramas such as Waterloo Road, Skins etc as they would most likely be watching.

Research into Potential Target Audience

"In marketing and advertising, a target audience, or target group is the primary group of people that something, usually an advertising campaign, is aimed at appealing to. A target audience can be people of a certain age group, gender, marital status, etc. A certain combination, like men from twenty to thirty is often a target audience. Other groups, although not the main focus, may also be interested. Discovering the appropriate target market(s) to market a product or service to is one of the most important stages involved with market research. Without knowing the target audience, a company's advertising and the selling efforts can become difficult and very expensive."

To identify the target audience for our music video i will first look at the artist. Our artist is called Ainjel Emme, a woman, and sing indie/folk music. therefore straight away we can say our main target audience will be women who listen to folk/indie music.

If we then look at what age listens to the genres the most we can work out our target age. Since our song, "Set up for a Fall" is more of an indie song, and since indie music is majorly listened to by teenagers, our target age is 16-18 year olds.

Overall we now know that our ratget audience is 16-18 year old girls who listen to indie music.

Research into Genre

Our song is in the genre folk/indie. I have decided to look into some music videos of songs in the same music genre to get an idea of how the videos of this type of music look.

Looking at these videos i can already tell that indie/folk music videos are generally slow and easy to watch, the second (growing younger) is simply the boys riding bikes and lip syncing for the whole video.

More research into our artist

In October of 2003, Ainjel Emme produced and released her first album, Heartache Is Boring. Heartache Is Boring received critical acclaim from local and national press, including The Austin Chronicle and BUST Magazine. The album was also a pick for the "Top 10 CDs of 2003" from Austin's 90.5 KUT-FM, and an Honorable Mention in the Austin Chronicle's Best of 2003 issue. The album is out-of-print but is still available digitally through outlets such as iTunes. Physical copies of the out-of-print disc have gone for upwards of $60 on eBay and $100 at Amazon.com.

Her second album Songs to Pass the Quiet Hours is in production.
